Domain Age Checker

See when any domain was registered, when it expires, who registered it, and when a website first appeared on it.

No sign-up. We read the public registry record for you. Nothing is stored.

Updated

For example:

Reads the registry’s public RDAP record and the Wayback Machine’s first capture.

In the output

What you get

  • The domain’s age, to the day
  • Registration and expiry dates
  • Registrar, status and nameservers
  • When the first website was archived
  • The registration, expiry and last-changed dates from the registry’s public RDAP record, the authoritative successor to WHOIS.
  • The registrar, the domain’s status codes in plain English, and its nameservers.
  • The first capture in the Wayback Machine, which shows how long a website has existed at the name.
  • The registrable domain behind any subdomain, so blog.example.co.uk is looked up as example.co.uk.
Three steps

How to use the Domain Age Checker

1

Enter a domain

Any domain or URL works; we look up the name the registry knows.

2

Read the age and dates

Registration comes from the registry itself. Some country domains (.io, .de, .co among them) do not publish it, and we say so and fall back to the archive.

3

Compare registration with first website

A long gap usually means the name was parked, or dropped and registered again by someone new.

Why it matters

Why a domain’s age is worth knowing

Vetting links and partners.

A site registered last month that claims a decade of history is worth a second look before you link to it, buy a link from it or partner with it.

Buying a domain.

An old name can carry links and history, good or bad. The gap between registration and first website often shows it was dropped and picked up by someone new.

Spotting look-alike sites.

Phishing and scam sites are almost always young. A days-old domain imitating a known brand is a warning sign.

Not a ranking factor on its own.

Google has said domain age does not help rankings by itself. What age brings is time to earn links and trust, which is what you are really checking.

After you run it

What to do with the result

Domain age answers “how long has this name existed”, which is a useful first question about any site you are about to link to, buy or trust. It is not a ranking factor in itself: what matters is what the site earned in that time. Veritas shows the links behind a domain, its competitors’ links, and the gap between them.
