SpyFu

Competitor research (SEO and PPC)

SpyFu is a competitor research tool built around Google Ads and organic search data: competitor keywords, ad history, domain comparisons, ranking history, top pages, backlinks, keyword research, weekly rank tracking and a newer site audit. It states 13.1 billion keywords, 152 million websites and 7.2 trillion indexed results across 38 countries.

SpyFu for classic SEO

Most SpyFu work is studying rivals: the keywords a domain buys and ranks for, and how its ads changed. Pro + AI, at $119 a month, is where that pays off, with unlimited searches and exports, a decade or more of paid and organic ranking history, 10 tracking projects, white-label PDF reports and an API. Basic at $39 caps results at 10,000 rows and omits history and AI tools. RivalFlow AI, from Pro + AI, rewrites a page against the competitors outranking it.

Rank tracking is weekly on every plan, from 5,000 keywords on Basic to 50,000 on Team/Agency at $249 a month with five users; extra users cost $15 on Basic and $30 above. A newer site audit checks 100+ issues. Backlinks come only from pages in Google’s top 100, which SpyFu says makes them unsuited to auditing your own profile, and no local rank tracking is described. Instead of a timed trial there is a free version with limited results, and paid plans are refundable within 30 days.

AI answer tracking

SpyFu does not describe any AI answer tracking. Its pricing page lists “AI Brand Monitoring”, limited on Basic and unlimited above, but SpyFu publishes no description of it or of the engines it covers, so it does not count as prompt tracking here. Its AI work points the other way: SpyFu GPT, released in September 2025 and reachable inside the app since May 2026, puts its keyword and ranking data inside ChatGPT for no added fee. A team that needs to know whether AI answers mention its brand will need a separate tracker.

Pros

  • Long Google Ads history makes it strong for studying how competitors built and tested paid campaigns.
  • Unlimited searches and exports on Pro + AI suit heavy research and bulk client work.
  • A lower entry price than most suites, with a money-back guarantee.

Cons

  • Basic excludes historical data, white-label reports, the API and the AI tools, and caps results at 10,000 rows.
  • Its backlinks come only from pages ranking in Google’s top 100, and SpyFu says it is not suited to auditing your own link profile.
  • Tracked rankings update weekly.
  • SpyFu says its data is not precise enough to compare you with a local competitor, and it describes no local rank tracking.

Pricing

  • Basic
$29/mo billed annually; 10,000-row results, 1 tracking project, 5,000 keywords tracked weekly, 1 user; no history, white-label or API
    $39/mo
  • Pro + AI
$89/mo billed annually, $59 for the first month; unlimited searches and exports, 10+ years of history, 10 projects, white-label reports, API
    $119/mo
  • Team/Agency
$187/mo billed annually; unlimited projects, 50,000 keywords tracked weekly, 5 users
    $249/mo

Trial: no timed trial; a free version with limited results and no time limit, and a money-back guarantee within 30 days.

Recent changes

  • Released SpyFu GPT in September 2025, connecting ChatGPT to live SpyFu data, and made it reachable inside the app in May 2026.
  • Added Czechia and Finland to its data coverage in March 2026.

Not the right fit for: Local businesses that need local rank tracking, and teams that need a full backlink index for link audits.

What each vendor does not publish

SpyFu
  • Its pricing page lists "AI Brand Monitoring" as limited on Basic and unlimited above, but we found no page describing it or naming the engines, so it is not counted as AI answer tracking.
  • SpyFu’s homepage says 18+ years of history and its pricing page 10+ years; we quote the pricing page.
  • The pricing URL in older links (spyfu.com/pro) returns an empty page; prices are from its current purchase page.
