SE Ranking is already the value pick among SEO suites, so leaving it rarely saves money. Core’s $129 buys daily tracking of 2,000 keywords, 10 projects, local SEO in three locations and 100 daily AI prompts. The reasons to move are narrower: engines it does not track, data it does not hold, or writing it does not do.
For deeper research, Semrush and Ahrefs are the step up. Semrush holds over 27.3 billion keywords against SE Ranking’s 5.5 billion and adds digital PR and Content Creation, while Ahrefs reports 35 trillion live backlinks with more than a decade of history. Both cost more per person: extra users start at $45 on Semrush and run $40 to $80 on Ahrefs, against $16 here.
For AI engines, check which one is missing. SE Ranking tracks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode, but not Claude or Copilot. Semrush adds Claude from its $199 Starter plan. Otterly.AI includes Copilot on every plan from $29 and sells Claude as an add-on. Ahrefs’ Brand Radar can check both, though Lite covers only 5 prompts.
For content, the choice turns on what the writer needs. Frase turns SERP research into briefs and drafts from $49 a month and publishes to four CMSs plus its own. Veritas, our product, drafts from documents you supply and cites every knowledge-based claim, with users included in the price, but it tracks far fewer prompts than SE Ranking and re-checks them every two weeks.
Agencies should weigh reporting before anything else. SE Ranking’s Agency Pack adds white-label reports for $69 a month billed yearly, Ahrefs’ help centre says its reports cannot be white-labelled, and Semrush charges $20 a month per branded report through Pro Report.
