Veritas vs Semrush

By Udayan Ambwani, Co-founder & CTO · Updated 5 Oct 2026

Semrush is the broadest search marketing suite, part of Adobe since April 2026. Veritas is narrower: drafts written from your own documents with each knowledge-based claim cited, beside the SEO and AI visibility tools that decide what to write.

The verdict

Semrush is the stronger buy if you need deep keyword and backlink data or daily AI tracking at volume. Veritas suits a team of up to five whose drafts must cite its own documents, with users included.

Choose Veritas ifOurs

You want drafts cited to your own documents, with users included rather than billed per seat.

Choose Semrush if

You want market-wide keyword and backlink data, digital PR and AI prompts tracked daily.

How to choose between Veritas and Semrush

Semrush sells breadth. It counts more than 27.3 billion keywords in its database, tracks rankings and local search visibility across markets, runs digital PR, and since April 2026 it has belonged to Adobe. Veritas, which is our product, does a narrower job: it writes drafts from your own documents and keeps the research that decides what to write in the same workspace.

Choose Semrush if your work depends on data about the whole market. Sizing a competitor’s traffic, planning link campaigns and pitching journalists all need a historical database, and Veritas limits keyword and backlink research to the domains you work on. Semrush is also the stronger buy for heavy AI answer tracking, since it checks five engines, Claude among them, every day.

Choose Veritas if the slow part of your week is getting drafts past a reviewer. Each knowledge-based claim in a Veritas draft is numbered and linked to the passage behind it, and anything it cannot trace is dropped. Semrush’s Content Creation writes full articles from a brief, but it does not describe citations back to material you supply.

Headcount moves the bill more than the plan names suggest. On Semrush Starter each user after the first adds $45 a month, so five people come to $379. Veritas Business costs $125 with five users, backlink monitoring and 25 tracked prompts, although that prompt allowance is well below what Semrush offers.

If you already pay for Semrush and mostly use it to brief writers, try Veritas beside it for the drafting before cancelling anything. If someone on the team opens Semrush’s research tools every day, keep it.

Feature by feature

What each tool does today, on the plans named in each row. Not described means the vendor’s pages do not mention it, which is not the same as the product lacking it.

Semrush takes the data rows, with over 27.3 billion keywords, digital PR, daily refresh and 50 to 200 prompts a day. Veritas takes the drafting row, citing claims to your own documents.

  • How often answers are re-checked. Veritas also runs on-demand checks between scheduled ones.
  • Tracked prompts. Veritas: Starter, Growth or Business. Semrush: Starter, Pro+ or Advanced.
  • Drafts articles cited to your own documents. Semrush Content Creation generates full-length articles from a brief; its features page does not describe citations back to documents you supply.
  • Keyword and backlink data. Veritas covers the domains you work on, not a market-wide historical database.
  • Starting price for AI tracking. The cheapest published plan that tracks AI answers: Starter for Veritas, Starter for Semrush.
  • Published security posture. Semrush’s security page describes SSO via SAML, GDPR measures and penetration testing; it does not mention SOC 2.

AI answer tracking

Semrush’s AI tracking starts on Starter at $199 a month and runs 50 to 200 prompts a day, depending on tier, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews, with AI brand sentiment on top. Veritas starts on Starter at $16 with 5 prompts, then 10 on Growth at $78 or 25 on Business, across the same engines except Claude, refreshed fortnightly.

Over a year, one user tracking 10 prompts pays $936 on Veritas and $2,388 on Semrush. At 50 prompts Veritas has no self-serve plan, while Semrush Starter still covers the load for the same $2,388, and a team of five tracking 100 prompts comes to $7,428 on Semrush Pro+. Neither publishes a plan for an agency tracking 300 prompts across three brands.

The plan, seats and add-ons behind every figure are worked through on each tool’s review: Semrush and Veritas.

What would change our verdict

  • Semrush saying whether Starter covers Google AI Mode and Copilot, which its pricing page leaves unclear.
  • Adobe repackaging or repricing Semrush after completing the acquisition, which would change the cost figures on this page.
  • Veritas adding a daily refresh or a public API, which are two of the criteria it currently loses on.

Questions people ask

Is Veritas a Semrush replacement?

For content, keyword and gap research on your own domains, site audits, backlinks and AI visibility, it covers the same jobs. It is not a replacement if you rely on Semrush’s market-wide historical data, daily prompt tracking at volume, digital PR or its wider marketing toolkits.

Which is cheaper for a team of five?

On Semrush prices read 29 September 2026, the Starter plan is $199 a month plus $45 for each user beyond the first, so five users is $379 a month. Veritas Business includes 5 users for $125 a month excluding GST.

Does Semrush track Claude?

Yes. Its features page lists AI visibility across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and AI Overviews. Veritas tracks the same engines except Claude.

Does Semrush cite sources in generated content?

Its Content Creation tool generates full-length articles from a brief. Its features page does not describe citations back to documents you supply, so we do not claim either way. Veritas attaches a numbered citation to every knowledge-based claim, opening the passage it came from.

How we researched this page

Every fact about another tool comes from that vendor’s own pages, or from a press report where we say so, listed under Sources with the date we read them. Where a vendor does not describe something, we say so rather than guess.

The scores and cost figures on this page are calculated, not assigned. Our full methodology sets out every rule, what each criterion is worth, and where our evidence runs out.

Update log

  1. 5 October 2026Updated: Veritas Starter now includes AI visibility, tracking 5 prompts across the same four engines, so AI visibility is on every Veritas plan. Earlier versions said it started on Growth.
  2. 29 September 2026Updated the Semrush figures on this page after re-reading Semrush’s own pages.
  3. 25 September 2026Veritas pricing updated: Starter added at the entry, and the plans above it renamed Growth and Business and repriced. Marketing Suite was retired on 25 September 2026; its LinkedIn and scheduled publishing moved into Business, and its Local SEO into Growth and Business. Competitor figures were not re-checked.
  4. 22 September 2026Updated: Veritas no longer tracks Claude, so it tracks four AI engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Its engine count, coverage and score changed to match, which can move its place in a ranked list.
  5. 15 September 2026Updated the Semrush figures on this page after re-reading Semrush’s own pages.
  6. 15 September 2026Rebuilt verdict first: a short verdict with calculated figures, an engine-by-engine coverage grid and yearly cost charts, with full reviews, specs and method folded below. The intro was shortened; no facts were removed.
  7. 12 September 2026Rebuilt as a full review from each vendor’s product pages, documentation and announcements, not only pricing pages, with pros and cons, recent changes, a method section and this log. Corrected: Semrush includes content creation and tracks Claude; the earlier version described neither.
  8. 11 September 2026Published.
