Surfer
Content optimization and AI visibilitySurfer, now branded Positive Surfer within the Positive group, describes itself as an AI Visibility Platform. Its Content Editor scores drafts in real time with a unified score that shows SEO on one side and AI Search on the other, fixed with Auto-Optimize, and Surfer AI generates branded articles, inserting internal and external links to sources as it writes rather than afterwards.
What Surfer does in the content editor
Most of a Surfer day happens in the Content Editor, and plans are sized by seats and documents. Discovery ($59 a month, $49 billed yearly) gives one seat and 120 documents; Standard at $119 gives three seats and 360; Peace of Mind at $359 gives ten seats, unlimited documents and an API with full editor control and score endpoints. Content Audit flags weak pages and content gaps on pages already live, Topical Map suggests angles to cover, and since August 2026 Recommendations act on AI Tracker findings inside the editor.
Surfer is not a keyword database or an SEO suite. Its product pages describe no backlink tools, no rank tracking and no technical crawl, so a team that needs those will pair it with a suite. Surfer AI links to your own pages and the open web as it drafts, but does not describe citations to documents you upload. No trial is listed, the “Start for Free” buttons lead to checkout, and seats beyond each plan’s allowance have no published price.
AI answer tracking
AI Tracker records mentions, position, sentiment and cited sources. The cheapest way in is AI Search Analytics, which tracks without the editor for $95 a month ($82 billed yearly), with five seats and 50 prompts checked daily across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Google AI Overviews. Pro, at $219, pairs the same 50 daily prompts with the editor, and Peace of Mind raises the count to 100. Standard is narrower, 25 prompts weekly in ChatGPT only, and Discovery has none; Claude and Copilot are not tracked on any plan.
A year of AI Search Analytics costs $1,140, and a team of five needing 100 prompts lands on Peace of Mind at $4,308. The MCP server launched in August 2026 comes with AI Search Analytics, Pro and above.
Pros
- A real-time content score that now covers AI Search as well as SEO.
- Tracker findings feed straight into editor recommendations, so measurement and fixes share a screen.
- Daily refresh on AI Search Analytics, Pro and above, with Google AI Mode tracked.
Cons
- The Discovery plan, $59 a month or $49 billed yearly, does not include AI visibility tracking.
- No free trial is listed; the “Start for Free” buttons open checkout.
- Backlink tools and a technical site crawl are not described on its product pages; Content Audit reviews content rather than crawl health.
- Surfer AI’s source links point to your pages and the open web; its pages do not describe citations to documents you upload.
