How to choose a Scrunch alternative

Start with what sets Scrunch apart. AXP, on Enterprise, serves compressed, machine-readable pages to AI agents without changing the human site, and Core benchmarks visibility by persona, topic and geography beside a real-time feed of AI bot crawls. If your team uses those every week, the alternatives are a step down, and staying is the honest answer.

If Core’s monitoring is what you use, you are paying $250 a month per brand for 125 prompts across ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot. Otterly.AI tracks the same four engines daily from $29, or 100 prompts for $189, with unlimited team members. AthenaHQ’s free plan covers those four plus Gemini with a $25 free credit.

If you need Claude or Gemini without an Enterprise contract, AthenaHQ Starter covers 11 models at $295, Otterly.AI sells them as add-ons, and Veritas includes Gemini, though not Claude, on every plan from $16. Writesonic Starter tracks Gemini but not Perplexity or Copilot.

If the missing piece is content, Scrunch’s own generation is basic and marked coming soon. Writesonic rewrites pages for GEO and drafts citation outreach from $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly. Veritas, our product, writes new drafts grounded in your own documents, every knowledge-based claim numbered to its source, and adds keyword research beside its own site audit. Profound’s Agents also publish content, on Enterprise.

Two practical points before deciding. Sitecore has acquired Scrunch, and whether Scrunch stays on sale as a standalone product is still an open question, which matters for any long commitment. And if you run AXP, decide what AI agents should be served in its place before the contract ends.

Why teams look past Scrunch

  • The Core plan is $250 a month per brand, with four engines.
  • Core includes 5 site audits a month; Claude, Gemini and AI Mode need Enterprise.
  • Additional seats cost $25 a month each, or $75 for five.
  • Content generation is basic on Core and marked coming soon; keyword research and backlinks are not described.

AI answer tracking

Scrunch Core’s 125 prompts are generous for a single brand, but Scrunch does not publish how often they are re-checked. Otterly.AI states a daily refresh on every plan and Profound’s trial runs daily, Veritas re-checks every two weeks with on-demand checks between, and AthenaHQ and Writesonic, like Scrunch, state no cadence. Claude is Enterprise-only on Scrunch, Profound and Writesonic, a paid add-on on Otterly.AI, and part of AthenaHQ’s $295 Starter.

Because Core bundles five seats, Scrunch costs the same $3,000 a year whether one person tracks 10 prompts or a team of five tracks 100. Otterly.AI covers that team of five for $2,268 on Standard, and Veritas covers only the ten-prompt starter, at $936. For three brands and 300 prompts, Otterly.AI is the only tool on this page with a published fit, at $5,868.

Which engines each tool covers

On the cheapest plan that tracks AI answers. Most vendors list more engines than that plan includes, so this is what you get at the price shown, not the brochure maximum.

Scrunch Core, Otterly.AI Lite and AthenaHQ’s free plan all include Perplexity and Copilot; Veritas has Gemini in place of Copilot, and Writesonic Starter tracks neither Perplexity nor Copilot.

Profound is the enterprise alternative for teams that picked Scrunch for its view of AI crawlers. Agent Analytics tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and other crawlers read your site, Prompt Volumes adds what people actually ask, and Agents turn findings into net-new content, page refreshes and FAQs, published through a CMS after approval, well beyond Scrunch’s basic content generation. On Enterprise it reaches nine engines, and seats are unlimited, with SSO and SOC 2.

What you give up: Profound does not describe anything like AXP’s machine-readable pages, and it has no published price. Brands get a free trial of 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews with 50 fixed prompts, then Enterprise pricing on request, where Scrunch at least publishes $250 for Core. Consider it when an Enterprise contract was already on the table.

Veritas fills the gap Scrunch still marks as coming soon: content. Growth costs $78 a month against Scrunch Core’s $250 and tracks four engines, with Gemini where Core has Copilot, and any gap it finds can be turned into a draft built from your own files, with a numbered citation on every knowledge-based claim. Keyword research, keyword gap, competitor analysis and a site audit graded for Google and AI crawlers come in the same plan; Scrunch does not describe keyword research at all.

What you give up: Veritas is ours, and it tracks far fewer prompts, 5 on Starter, 10 on Growth or 25 on Business against Scrunch’s 125, re-checked every two weeks. It has no persona or geography benchmarks, no feed of AI bot traffic, nothing like AXP, and no API. Choose it if you need the content written more than you need finer monitoring.

Otterly.AI tracks exactly the engines Scrunch Core does, ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and Copilot, for far less, and it states a daily refresh, which Scrunch does not publish. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts and Standard $189 for 100, with unlimited team members against Scrunch’s five seats and $25 for each one after. API and MCP access come on Standard, where Scrunch keeps its API for Enterprise.

What you give up: Scrunch Core’s 125 prompts fall between Otterly’s Standard and Premium plans, so matching it means settling for 100 prompts or paying $489 for 400. Otterly.AI does not describe persona or geography benchmarks or anything like AXP. Claude, Gemini and AI Mode are paid add-ons, which is at least a self-serve route that Scrunch only opens on Enterprise.

Writesonic

Best for teams that want GEO fixes and outreach done in the tool.

Writesonic is the pick if Scrunch told you what to fix and you want the tool to do it. The Action Center orders opportunities by their visibility and citation impact, an agent rewrites pages for GEO, a technical audit checks robots.txt, schema and indexing from AI bot visits, and it drafts outreach to the Reddit threads, YouTube videos and listicles citing competitors. All of that starts on Starter at $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, well below Core’s $250, with a card-free trial.

What you give up: self-serve plans track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews only, so Perplexity and Copilot, both on Scrunch Core, move to Writesonic Enterprise. Starter has one user and one project against Scrunch’s five seats, and prompt allowances are not published. It suits one brand with a small team, not an agency running several.

AthenaHQ

Best for teams that want to start free, with many models and hallucination detection.

AthenaHQ reaches Claude and Gemini without the Enterprise contract Scrunch requires. The free Essential plan tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot with a $25 free credit, one engine more than Scrunch Core, and the $295 Starter reaches 11 models including Claude and AI Mode. Hallucination detection, sentiment analysis and a Shopify integration that ties AEO content to revenue are things Scrunch’s pages do not describe.

What you give up: Starter costs more than Core, $295 against $250, and it meters usage in credits, one per AI response, where Scrunch includes a fixed 125 prompts. Neither publishes a refresh rate. AthenaHQ does not describe an AI bot traffic feed or anything like AXP, and API access is a paid add-on on Starter. Start on the free plan to see whether its coverage fits.

Switching from Scrunch

What would change our verdict

  • Sitecore stating whether Scrunch continues to be sold standalone after the acquisition, which is the open question for anyone buying it now.
  • Scrunch publishing a refresh cadence, which we could not find, and offering Claude and Gemini below Enterprise.

Does any alternative offer something like AXP?
